Oscar Academy, WTF?

Seriously The Academy...
How is Hailee Steinfeld up for a supporting actress oscar and Annette Bening for a lead? Can someone explain this to me? Hailee Steinfeld had a lead role and Anette Bening did not. Did the academy accidentally write the wrong names next to the ballot check boxes? Did they see either movie?
This remake of True Grit could not have existed without Hailee Steinfled- who not only narrates the movie, but is also it's central character and drives the entire plot.
Anette Bening is, at best, a fleeting reminder that, between a barrage of sex scenes starring Julianne Moore & Mark Ruffalo, you are watching a movie that without her would be any other number of humdrum straight dramedies that no academy would nominate for anything in any category.
Swap Anette Bening for an infertile Greg Kinnear who's wife is cheating on him with their anonymous sperm donor and realize that this truly is at best just a mediocre movie.
It's like that time when Nicole Kidman won for lead actress in the Hours because she was wearing a prosthetic nose for her 15 on-camera minutes, and Julianne Moore was up in the same category for Far from Heaven- which hands down, should've beat crazy pants & the fake nose.
It's just plain wrong.

Is it too soon to remake Showgirls?

I had this dream where they recast Showgirls. It was Cher playing Gina Gershon and Christina Aguilera playing Elizabeth Berkley. I couldn't believe it when one day my dream came true.
There really isn't anything these pictures can't say for me, although I am thankful the double-nude scene wasn't available in the Cher/Aguilera version. Not that the Gershon/Berkley was any walk in the park...

Remember Saturday, September 27, 2008?

On that very date I said that I thought Sarah Palin was "a hoot."
See for yourself, you can look back at my oldest blog posts, that thing really happened.
I'm totally over it, she no longer, and really hasn't for quite sometime, I'd say years, qualifies as "a hoot."
Here is a simple theory on why we are still talking about this bitch nearing the end of 2010:
there are so many ego driven baby boomers (seventy-six million) who are so desperately afraid of what might happen when they, en masse, become very old, that they are willing to vote this obvious lunatic into ultimate power because her seemingly minuscule grasp of concepts such as action v. consequence, cause v. effect, will lead her to pick up that red phone and say something like, "let 'er rip!" at a pin drop, launching a nuclear holocaust, thus effectively eliminating the prospect of old age for this particular group of Americans.
As my uncle says, and I am paraphrasing here, 'I'm ready for that inevitability- I disagree with everything she stands for, but if she's willing to end it all, she's got my vote.'
I think in the photograph she is throwing up the gang sign for , "I'm fucking crazy."

Dear Tea Partier,

When next we speak of your undying belief that the federal governmental system is f**king You in the a** daily - giving cause for an armed uprising, the likes of which no one has seen since the civil war (read - the south will rise again?), please, do not follow by saying you just worked out at the VA gym, got a free physical exam and purchased your groceries at below wholesale cost from the commissary with your SSD check. You see no irony in your revolution, and it truly baffles.
I can assure you, I really, really, really, don't want to hear it. Really. I sincerely do not.
Respectfully,

Today I had a thought. . .Just for shits, while we're at it - how bout a national ballot on whether or not to overturn womens suffrage? Seriously, why bother having all this legal mumbo jumbo, all this political hoo haa - everything from now on should be put to the public opinion poll and turned into law. Go America!
It'll be really easy - the president (voted in by whomever retains voting rights, after the great voting right referendums of 2011), like a school principal, will just announce outcomes from all random ass referendums voted upon by the general population over a national PA system, we'll have a single police force to enforce the will of the people on to the people and it'll be like Real Live Freedom! Now that's what I call democracy, who's with me!??
btw - I'm running for president starting now, please send all campaign donations to sarahforpresident2012@gmail.com

The Creepy Time Traveler and His Child Bride

How this movie ever passed a screen test is beyond my grasp. Okay, so my lady and I were broiling hot on a muggy August night in NYC and decided to take a risk and go blindly into an air conditioned movie theater to see some mindless entertainment. Had to be better than wasting away moaning and groaning in our oven like apartment, yes? No.
No, not at all. We rolled into our favorite very cold local movie theater with the most comfortable chairs, sat down with our free popcorns, via our Regal Crown Club Card™ and sat back to hopefully be whisked away on some sort of magical adventure.
No. We suffered through 107 minutes of maybe the worst pile of schlock we had ever seen. Complete with a three note string section sound track that was laid on so thick it was nearly impossible to hear the dialogue, this movie was filled wretched moments of pregnant pauses followed by what we are supposed to believe are "sayings"? I'm not sure. It was Really weird.
The plot line is basically about a creep that stalks a little girl and tricks her into eventually marrying him, it was gross. The final scene was stupid. Schlock, sap.

I'm just beside myself.
Last night I was deeply disturbed and saddened when I learned about all of this Rick Warren inaugural invocation business. (Sigh) After many teary hours of very careful consideration regarding this matter, I am still totally disheartened. Now, I am in no way over looking the choice of Reverend Joseph Lowery - who is a pioneer of civil rights as well as being a unilaterally unifying figure, I am just baffled at the inclusion of someone who is so absolutely polarizing and derisive. Rick Warren goes many steps beyond merely being opposed to gay marriage, which is what he is being pointed at for initially. His offenses towards innumerable groups of people just go on and on and on. It is one thing to be inclusive and bridge divides, have differences of opinion, but it is another thing entirely to invite a hate monger. And yes, Rick, I am calling you a hate monger. Calling for the assassinations of world leaders - however bad they be, is not Christian, it's hateful. Lumping together pedophilia, incest and beastiality within the context of the gay marriage issue is hateful. Providing Only abstinence-only based sex education to regions torn apart by an AIDS crisis is hateful. Comparing abortion to the holocaust suffered by Jews during WWII is hateful.
I think the last thing we need in this world is more hate.
Thanks but no thanks for that bridge to nowhere.

Bingo!

thanks whoever created these, it really made the 'debate' more tolerable, although we think Palin may have been briefed re: the words on the bingo cards because she avoided some very obvious ones. There was also some debacle due to one person yelling "Palin!" and one "Bingo!" and which was actually the prize winning cry - being that traditionally you would say "Bingo!" but the top of the card had "Palin" written in bingo font, let's just say it got a little ugly. Thank goodness she got that 'special needs' in there at the end there or we would've all gone home empty handed!
One show only!
Joe Six-Pack & The Hockey Moms˚ are playing tomorrow night at The Chance and Poughkeepsie, who's in?

Here are just some quotes
"He (McCain) is the man we need to leave." - Sarah Palin, 10:23 EST
When asked what her achilles heel was she said, and I quote,
"We're an unapologetic nation."
Ooooookay, uh not probably the Best message to send out there to the world. . . but, Agreed.
And then she went to tout her experience as Governor of Alaska. . . wait, so was That her achilles heel? Governing Alaska? Because I am pretty sure that's what she said as she blathered on and on about her experience.
Then she looks Biden right in the face and says re: his wife,
"Her reward is in heaven."
Not sure where she was going with this one, but didn't anyone brief her on tact?
Also "OBiden" was a good one.
Lest I forget, "Nucular. . .Nucular. . .Nucular. . . Nucular. . .Nucular. . .Nucular."

Whoever dressed Gwen Ifill last night gets a big fat F
The jacket was button-less, collarless, puffy, ill-fitting, and awkward. It's just not fair.
Sarah Palin wants you to know how much she Loves Israel
she fucking Loves it. As my friend Liz pointed out, it's most likely because her Diverse group of friends probably includes innumerable Jewish folks. Although, Congressman Robert Wexler begs to disagree.
